Hickory Grove 4-H Club is one of the longest standing 4-H Clubs in Madison County. Hickory Grove 4-H has a primary focus in livestock regarding animal husbandry, ethics and showmanship. Many of these youth participate in livestock shows throughout the year, including the North Florida Livestock Show & Sale held here in Madison. Although this is their main project area, the group is highly active in community service projects and completes a variety of small projects in areas such as the arts, communication, STEM and citizenship. Most recently, the club has added Shooting Sports & Safety to its long list of activities.
During its February and March meetings, the members explored topics such as clothing manufacturing, trapping, spring planting… and most importantly, who won the Big Buck Contest! Special thanks to our February guest speaker Mr. Phillip Hackle for sharing his knowledge about the important role animals play in our clothing manufacturing process and demonstrating how wild animals are safely trapped.
The club will hold its next meeting on Sunday, May 8 at 3 p.m. at the Hickory Grove Church. All interested parties are welcome to stop by the meeting for more information or to just get a taste of what a 4-H Club is all about!
