For Amanda Norris, owner of Daisy and Dukes Boutique, recent challenges have brought her back to a familiar way of operating. Before she opened her physical store in downtown Madison, Norris offered items online and through social media. Soon after she and her husband Chris opened Norris Cafe in the same space where Chris' family operated Norris Pharmacy for many years, Chris and Amanda decided to turn the pharmacy portion of the building into Daisy and Dukes Boutique.
Daisy and Dukes offers one-of-a-kind clothing items, shoes, jewelry, children's items, handbags, gifts for all tastes and much more. During the recent restrictions regarding social distancing, many retail businesses have struggled to keep pace with the changing landscape. For Norris, it has meant returning to her roots of online sales. She still welcomes customers into her store, but Norris is sensitive to the health concerns of her customers and the community. "I love to have people come in," said Norris. "But I also want to cooperate with health officials and abide with the rules regarding distancing." These restrictions have actually opened new avenues for Norris. "We gladly offer curbside service and we have begun offering 'personal shopping' to save customers from having to come into the store. They can just tell us what they want or we can help with ideas and then the customer can come to the store and we'll bring the items out to them." Norris hopes to offer this new concept to customers even after everything is "back to normal." According to Norris, the ability to adapt is and has been crucial to keeping her doors open.
