Hopewell Baptist Church will be giving away free Thanksgiving meals, on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, Nov. 24, at the Senior Citizens Center, located at 1161 Harvey Greene Dr., in Madison. This will mark the sixth year they have been offering this service to the Madison County community. They will begin serving meals at 11 a.m. through 1 p.m., or until the food is gone.
The list of supplies needed to make the Thanksgiving day meals are:
- 45 turkeys
- 300 lbs. of sweet potatoes
- 40 gallons of green beans
- 15 five pound bags of self-rising cornmeal
- Seven gallons of milk
- Eight pounds of butter
- 15 dozen eggs
- 30 small cans of chicken broth
- 30 small cans of cream of chicken soup
- Several cans of cranberry sauce
- Desserts
- 800 to-go plates
- Napkins
- 800 forks
- 800 rolls
Hopewell Baptist Church's goal is to make 800 plates for individuals in the community that need a Thanksgiving day meal. Many of these meals will be delivered to individuals with disabilities or to those without transportation. Anyone that has the desire to help by making a donation or to volunteer their time on the day of the event are encouraged to call Timmy Dyke at (850) 464-8107.
