With hurricane season in full swing and lasting until the end of November, here are some maintenance tasks to do around your home to prepare for the next hurricane.
Inspect/repair your roof. Inspect any loose or damaged shingles. Make sure to address vulnerable areas to decrease the chance of any leaks or damage.
Trim trees near your home. By keeping the trees around your house trimmed, you minimize the risk of damage from any broken branches.
Inspect windows and doors. Inspect any entry points and ensure they are secure. Install storm shutters or purchase impact-resistant windows and doors to prevent any damage from debris.
Clear gutters and drainage. Make sure your gutters and drainage systems are working properly, and clear any buildup.
Secure outdoor furniture. Store or anchor outdoor furniture, grills and decorative items to stop them from become dangerous projectiles.
Protect irrigation systems. Inspect your irrigation systems for any damage and shut off irrigation to prevent water buildup when there is heavy rainfall.
Invest in backup power. Purchase a generator to hook up any essential items, like your refrigerator, during power outages.
Reinforce garage doors. If your home has any garage doors, ensure that your garage doors are ready to endure any heavy winds.
