The excitement could be felt in the air as students, staff members and MCHS girls' basketball players gathered in the Madison County High School library to witness MCHS girls' basketball player Jameica Cobb sign off with Alabama A&M on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 2:30 p.m. Head Coach Marcus Hawkins expressed his pride for Cobb during the signing ceremony. “It's really been a joy to coach her,” said Hawkins. “She has done some great things for the basketball team and set some great records.” Hawkins recalls that after Cobb talked to several coaches at A&M and taking the opportunity to play ball during the summer, the coaches were very enthusiastic and excited. “They said instantly, 'we have got to have her,'” said Hawkins. Along with her athletic achievements, Cobb has also remained very academically successful, maintaining a 3.5 GPA and becoming NCAA qualified. “I just want to say thanks to my support system and those who believed in me,” said Cobb. Cobb also thanked her mother, Mijanvo Cobb, for encouraging her “day in and day out.” Cobb has a full scholarship and is the second MCHS Cowgirl to sign off.
