When the Beta Club at James Madison Preparatory High School decided to make a donation, they proved that even pennies can add up. The club sponsored a “Pennies for Pets” campaign to raise money for the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Animal Services Division.
The department depends on generous donations of both money and supplies to help care for the animals in their care. When the MCSO took over animal services, Sheriff David Harper vowed that no pet would be put down simply to make room for more animals. This means a great deal of money is needed in order to help keep that promise.
To help raise money for this worthwhile cause, the student-led service club held a competition among the first period classes of the school, with the winning class receiving a free donut party. In the end, a total of $285.22 was raised and donated to the MCSO Animal Services Division. That will probably help buy a lot of dog biscuits.
