James 'Red' Van Cason, 93, passed away on Dec. 22 at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House in Tallahassee. James was born August 24, 1922 in Madison to James Van Cason, Sr. and Maggie King Cason. James honorably served our country in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Cason was of the Baptist faith and a charter member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Cason may be remembered for working with LP gas industry for many years, keeping families’ homes warm in the winter. He then worked with Emergency Medical Service in Madison County where he retired in 1987 after 13 years of employment. James was preceded in death by his parents, James Van Cason, Sr. and Maggie King Cason, and three brothers, David Cason, Willie Cason and Kelly Cason. Mr. Cason is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mrs. Vercie Tolar Cason; two daughters: Nancy Cason Stokely and husband, Larry, and Ellen Cason Sherrod and husband, Hugh; two granddaughters: Julie Lampe, and husband, Doug, and Shannon Ash, and husband, Bart; four great-grandchildren: Cason Ash and fiancé, Cheyanne Kemp, Austen Ash, Aly Lampe and Sarah Lampe; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 26 at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church with Bro. Bryan Phillips officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterwards in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 26 at Faith Baptist Church.
