Janice Ann Dykes Flowers, age 77, of Lee, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Born on Nov. 25, 1947, in Eustis, Fla., Janice was the cherished daughter of the late John Felder Dykes and Gladys Pearl Dykes. She was the sixth of seven children. Her childhood was spent on dairy farms across middle Florida.
Janice pursued a career as an LPN, contributing her skills in both clinical and hospital settings for many years. She had a profound passion for cooking, she especially enjoyed sharing her recipes with others. Central to her life was her faith and love for others, with her devotion to serving the Lord bringing her immense joy. Janice was known for openly sharing her faith with gladness and joy. Together with her husband, Retis C. Flowers, the couple faithfully served the congregation of Midway Church of God for over 52 years as Pastor and Pastor’s wife.
Janice will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her faith and her deep affection for her family. We find peace in knowing that she now rests in the embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Janice is survived by her loving husband of nearly 57 years, Retis C. Flowers; daughters: Edna Doyle (Amon), of Lee, Fla., Regina Forrest (Brad), of Franklinville, N.C. and Rita Rankhorn (Ken), of Live Oak, Fla.; grandchildren: Lindsey English, Amanda Grant (Justin) and AJ Doyle (Aubren); and great-grandchildren: Lane, Brenlee, Jolene, Isaac and Adaline Janice, due in August, all of Lee, Fla. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians and nurses at Moses Cone Hospital, in Greensboro, N.C., for their prompt and compassionate care. Special thanks are also extended to the congregation of Midway Church of God for their dedicated support and care during this challenging time. Your love, prayers, and service are deeply appreciated.
Visitation for family and friends will take place from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., on Saturday, March 15, at New Testament Christian Center, in Madison. The funeral service will follow immediately at 3 p.m., officiated by Pastor Brad Forrest of Lakeside Park Church of God, in Franklinville, N.C. Interment will occur at Corinth Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, in Lee, immediately following the service.
