Janice Ethel Lamb, aged 86, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024.
Lamb was born in Madison County, Fla., on Nov. 25,1937. She graduated from Madison High School (1955), and afterwards enrolled at Florida State University, in Tallahassee, where she completed her bachelor’s degree (1959). She would go on to earn a Master of Arts degree from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, Tenn. (1963).
In 1959, Lamb moved to Jacksonville, Fa., where she would reside for the rest of her life. For 42 years, she taught high school biology for the Duval County Public Schools. After retiring from teaching at the high school level, she continued to teach for nine additional years as an adjunct professor of Biology at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Lamb received many awards and recognitions, including Duval County Teacher of the Year and the National Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence in Science. For many years she served as Chairperson of the Science Department, and Faculty Sponsor of the Para-Med Club. She was delighted to receive news and updates from former students, and saved every card and letter she was sent.
Janice’s love for biology extended beyond the classroom. She had a particular interest in butterflies and owls and enjoyed sharing her knowledge of these with friends and neighbors. Janice was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Janice Lamb was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Ethel Lamb; her sister, Sybil Lamb; her brother, William Carroll Lamb; and her niece-in-law, Constanze Kirmse. She is survived by her brother, Samuel (Evelyn) Lamb, Jr.; her sister-in-law, Rubye Carol Lamb; her nephews and niece: Del (Lea) Lamb, Dean (Sheryl) Lamb, Dave (Brenda) Lamb, Don Lamb, Jennifer (William) Oppenheimer and William (Margaret) Lamb, Jr.; 12 grand nephews and nieces; a great-grand nephew and great-grand niece; and special cousin, Fannie B. Hunter.
A funeral service to honor Janice’s life will be held at Beggs Funeral Home - Madison Chapel, in Madison, Fla., at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 26, followed by burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior.
