Mrs. Janice Haines Brown, age 83, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, in Tallahassee. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20 in the Greenville Baptist Church with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, in Greenville. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 19 at T. J. Beggs, Jr. & Sons, of Madison. Donations may be made to Greenville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. She was born in Crossville, Al., and lived in numerous towns in Georgia and ended up in Guyton, Ga., where she graduated from high school. She enrolled at the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she received her BS degree in Health Science and Physical Education. She moved to Greenville in 1955 where she taught and coached the girls basketball team for Greenville High School
It was there she met Bobby Brown, and they were married in 1956. She taught in various schools in Madison County before her retirement. She was a member of Greenville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and served as chairperson of the Homebound Committee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Brown; four sisters: Jean Fowler, Jackie Webb, Jo Massey, and Mary Ruth Pitts; and a niece, Robin Fowler.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Brown, of Tallahassee; a sister, Jerry Hurst, of Mt. Vernon, Ga., and many nieces and nephews.
