Greenville Baptist Church is excited to welcome their newest member. Brother Jeff Bailey has followed God's call to accept the position of Associate Pastor at Greenville Baptist Church. Before coming to Greenville, Bailey was the pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Lee. On making the move, he commented, “It was God. I had been praying for God to open a door and then Toney asked if I would come fill the position of Associate Pastor at Greenville Baptist.” Bailey has been pastoring churches for eight years and was a youth pastor for three years before that. He answered the call to the ministry while attending Hopewell Baptist Church. “It was VBS week and I was teaching the youth class,” said Bailey. “I had been struggling with the idea and wondering whether God was really calling me to the ministry. I was praying hard that God would make it clear to me; on Thursday night of VBS, I arrived early and sat on a pew. I picked up the Bible and began to read in Hebrews. The first verse I read was Hebrews 12:25: See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? I knew then what I was meant to do.” Bailey spoke with Preston Gainey, the pastor of Hopewell at the time. He told him he was sure he wanted to preach-- just not to youth. “The funny thing is, two weeks later I was the new youth pastor at Lee First Baptist,” said Bailey. Jeff has been happily married to his wife, Janet, for 23 years and they have four children together. The family is excited to join the GBC congregation and begin their ministry. Even more, GBC couldn't be happier about their new Associate Pastor. “We are extremely excited about the future [with Bailey],” said Pastor Toney Hill. “We look forward to all that God has in store for us.” When asked about his hopes and plans for Greenville, Bailey simply responded: “To reach Greenville for Jesus, no matter what.”
