Congratulations are in order for James E. Stanley, Jr. for his appointment to serve as Madison City Commissioner, District 4. Stanley was sworn into the position, on Tuesday, Nov. 22, by Clay Schnitker, City Attorney.

On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Madison City Commission held a special meeting to fill the vacancy for the position of Madison City Commissioner, District 4. The position became vacant when Marcus Hawkins, Sr. resigned in order to run for school superintendent.
In accordance with law, any vacancy in the commission shall be filled until the next regular municipal election by a vote of the remaining members of the commission and may only be filled by a resident of the City of Madison, from the district in which the vacancy exists.
The position was posted in the newspaper to prompt interested individuals to submit a letter of interest, along with proof of Madison City residency. There were six candidates who submitted letters to express their interest in the position. Those individuals were sent invitations to attend the meeting. Those in attendance were able to address the board to discuss their credentials and express why they should be considered for the position. The potential candidates were: Marcus Hawkins, Sr., Terry Johnson, Shirley Joseph (not present), Christy Roebuck, Chasity Siplin and James E. Stanley, Jr.
The board voted in favor of James E. Stanley, Jr. to fill the position of City Commissioner. This will remain in effect for the duration of this term until the next election in March of 2018. Stanley was sworn in by Clay Schnitker, City Attorney.
“It is an honor that the other Commissioners selected me to serve on the City of Madison Commission as District 4 Commissioner,” said Stanley.
