Matthew Gassler:
Matthew Gassler is the son of Steve McGuire. He credits a portion of his success to his family, for being so supportive of him throughout his school journey. His grandmother is Jan Green. His aunt and uncle are Robert and Cheri Green. Gassler has worked hard to get where he is today and said he would tell his younger self to “take a break.”
Gassler's favorite subjects in high school have been math and science. He spent many long nights studying and expressed gratitude to his family for pushing and supporting him. “He was always working, always busy,” said JMPHS Science Teacher Donna Law. “He was effortless in his academics.” Gassler plans to attend Daytona State College, majoring in engineering technology. Once he graduates, he plans on seeking employment at a manufacturing plant.
Tyler Platt:
Tyler Platt is the son of Troy and Tracy Platt. His grandmother, Cheri Platt was driven to tears of happiness at the announcement of Platt's achievement. Platt plans to finish attending North Florida College (NFC), where he is currently taking classes as part of a dual enrollment program. Once he graduates with his Associate of Arts, he plans on going to the University of Florida.
Platt is currently undecided on his major but is leaning toward agriculture, engineering or business. “Employers would be lucky to have him,” said Law. “He is trustworthy and honest. He has a standout character.” Platt's parents expressed that they love him and know he will go far.
