Joe C. Peavy, age 84, former Sheriff of Madison County, Fl. died on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at his home in Madison, Fl. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Madison with burial following at the Cherry Lake cemetery. Family received friends from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the church before the service began.
Peavy was born in a town called Coon Bottom, which is located in Gadsden County, Fl. on Nov. 8, 1932. A big part of his life involved law enforcement as he served as Sheriff for Madison County for 28 years. Formerly, before elected Sheriff for Madison County, he was in the Florida Highway Patrol for 16 years. Peavy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madison where he served as a Deacon. He was a big part of Madison County and did everything possible to better the county. Peavy proudly served and was apart of many Madison County clubs such as: the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge #11 F&AM, Madison Shrine Club, Cattleman Association and a Board Member of the Senior Citizens Council.
Peavy is survived by his wife, Suzanne Burnett Peavy of Madison, Fl.; two sons, Robin Peavy (Lei) of Huntsville, Al., and Opie Peavy (Paige) of Madison, Fl.; three daughters: Pam Peavy Teal (Henry) of Panama City Beach, Fl., Kimberly Ann Pridgeon of Valdosta, Ga., and Betsy Craven (Cole) of Valdosta, Ga.; one brother, Camp Peavy (Nancy) of Tallahassee, Fl.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
