John D. Cuppett, age 63, died Tuesday, June 2, at Madison County Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, at Faith Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m., at the church. He was born in Los Angeles, Calif., but was a life long resident of Madison. He was the son of the late Helen Cuppett of Lee, Fl., and Dwight Cuppett of Jacksonville, Fl. John was a co-owner and auto mechanic for many years for Ski’s Automotive in Madison. He was a racing enthusiast and helped with several race teams in the area. After his retirement, John really enjoyed Ham Radio Operations. He was a long time member of the Madison ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) where he served as Assistant Director to his friend Pat Lightcap, Director. John enjoyed getting “Contact Cards” from people that he had contacted throughout the world. He even had one from the “Space Station” orbiting the earth. John loved racing, radios, photography, computers, but most of all, his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Chani Cuppett of Bryson City, N.C.; a sister, Janet Zygarlowski of Madison; and a brother, Mike Cuppett (Sharon) also from Madison.
