Joseph Scanlon McCain, Jr. was born on July 25, 1956, in Madison, Fla. He died on Sunday, May 2, 2021, following a long illness at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.
Scanlon graduated from Madison High School in 1974. He went to Andrew College in Georgia and North Florida Junior College in Madison. He worked for a short period of time at Dixie Packers in Madison before moving to Dallas Texas. Later he moved to Oxford Miss., where he took a few classes at Ole Miss.
He moved to Savannah, where he worked for Lance and later to Marietta, Ga. He moved to Tallahassee, where he starting working for the first District Court of Appeals as a clerk for the State of Florida. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Madison.
He was survived by his wife of 27 years, Carolyn Elizabeth Bell McCain, of Tallahassee, Fla.; his mother, Helen Howell McCain of Madison; brother, William Howell McCain (Suzanne) of Bartow, Fla.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Tallahassee Memorial Palliative and Supportive Care Department, the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Oakridge Cemetery in Madison.
