Joyce Lane Bruton, 68, of Greenville, Fla., departed this life on Friday, Feb. 12, 2021. She was the loving wife of Willis Bruton, Jr.
Celebration of life services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, in the sanctuary of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1943 SW Grand Street, in Greenville. Public viewing and visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, in the sanctuary of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 154 SW Ray Charles Avenue, in Greenville. Earthly bed of slumber: St. Matthews AME Church Cemetery, in Greenville. Tillman of Madison, ~ A Hall-Moore Provider ~ has been entrusted with final arrangements.
Joyce, affectionately called "Slim", treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to family, she also had a special fondness for fishing, cooking and listening to gospel music.
Having accepted the Lord as her personal Savior earlier in her life, Joyce dedicated her time and talent through her service at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, in Greenville. She enjoyed singing in the choir, as well as being an active member of the usher ministry.
Cherishing her loving life and legacy are her husband of 22 years, Willis Bruton, Jr.; children: Kristie (Kevin) Gilley, Jerry (Jessie Clayton) Tatum, Willie (Lisa) Bruton, Germany (Janice) Bruton and Darlene (Gavin) Burch; step-children: Soleia Kee, John Kee, Willis A. (Tongela) Bruton and Mona Sanders; sisters: Norma Lane Arnold, Rosa (Charles) Conway, Easter Lane (Freddie) Arnold, Sandra (Damon) Cobb, Debra Cobb, Elizabeth (Roosevelt) Manor, Kathleen (Ernest) Wooten, Phyllis Bruton, Janice Butler, Nellie Sykes and Gloria Jones; brothers: Sammy Lane, Jessie Dansey, Love (Andrea) Simmons, George (Jeanette) Brooks, Abraham Brooks, Donald Butler, Alonzo (Elizabeth) Butler, Sr., Willie L. Davis, Eli Butler, Kenneth Butler and Terry Hampton; 17 grandchildren; special aunt: Rosa (Charlie) Arnold; along with numerous other loving relatives and sorrowing friends.
