On Thursday, Sept. 23, the Madison County High School Cowboys junior varsity team mounted up and traveled to Suwannee County to invade Paul Langford Stadium to take on the Suwannee Bulldogs junior varsity. It was a game that was lacking a bit of its usual intensity as the Bulldogs have been licking their wounds after an 0-4 start to the season. However, the Cowboys did not notice as they scored early and often.
The Cowboys got off to a great start after a bad snap by the Bulldogs punting unit. Placing the ball on the Bulldogs 18 yard line, quarterback Brayden Coe wasted no time on the offense's first play. Coe dropped back in the pocket to hit Jartavis Miller for the Cowboys' first touchdown of the night. After converting the two-point conversion, the Cowboys had an 8-0 lead within minutes of the first quarter. It wasn't long before Coe was again leading the Cowboys down the field for another Cowboys touchdown when he found Detrez Lamar in the endzone for a 25-yard touchdown pass; after tacking on the extra point, the Cowboys led 16-0 with 1:16 remaining in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Cowboys' defense made its presence known with an 87-yard scoop and score by Jaiden Peacock from a Bulldogs fumble deep in Cowboys territory, putting six more points on the scoreboard for the Cowboys. Then, as time was running down and the Bulldogs were desperate to get points on the board, Zay Bryant came away with a Cowboys interception to end another Bulldogs drive. The Cowboys had a comfortable lead going into half-time, 22-0.
In the second half, it was more of the same. The Cowboys' defense proved to be too much for the Bulldog's offense, allowing the Cowboys' stable of running backs to chew up yardage and time off the clock. But, not before Coe found the endzone two more times with his feet, adding another touchdown from 31 yards out and one from the 1 yard line. Giving the Cowboys the win by a score of 38-0 over the Bulldogs.
The offensive player of the game was Coe, who accounted for four touchdowns; two passing and two rushing.
The defensive player of the game was Peacock, who accounted for many tackles and the only defensive touchdown of the night, an 87-yard fumble return.
