Madison County High School (MCHS) football standout Kelvin Kegler is one of only 66 players statewide chosen to play in the 62nd Annual Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) All-Star game on Saturday, Dec. 17, at The Villages. Kegler joins a long list of Cowboy greats to play in the FACA All-Star game, including Deshawntee “Ironhead” Gallon, Eric Bright, Zack Sprenkle, Tevin Roundtree, LaPadre Stevenson, and Sherrod Brinson. “We are extremely proud of Kelvin and are looking forward to watching him play [this] Saturday,” said MCHS Head Football Coach Mike Coe.
Kegler had 88 tackles this year for the Cowboys. Of these; 29 tackles were for loss, including nine sacks. Kegler also forced three fumbles. In addition to playing a dominate role on the Cowboys defensive line, Kegler also played fullback, primarily on short yardage situations. During the regular season, Kegler had a total of 57 yards rushing on six carries, scoring two touchdowns.
Kegler has also been named the All Big Bend Defensive Player of the Year by the Tallahassee Democrat. Kegler still maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average at MCHS. His parents are Kelvin Kegler, Sr. and Carmencita Prince. He has made a verbal commitment to play football at the University of South Florida next year.
