On Thursday, March 9, the Madison Kiwanis Club opened their meeting with discussion about their recent reading project on the anniversary of Dr. Seuss' birthday. The yearly project sees Kiwanians reading to young students throughout Madison County. This year, over 40 classes enjoyed the readings and the free Dr. Seuss books that came with it. Also, Clean Up Madison County was discussed, with members offering suggestions on how to improve their involvement in the effort next year.
Afterwards, A Women's Pregnancy Center (AWPC) Director Jenny Starling was the guest speaker, giving updates on the ministry's future plans. Expanding their outreach into Greenville and Perry, Fla., are both high on Starling's priority list. She reported that visits to the center are up 80 percent over this same period last year. The Kiwanis Club has actively supported AWPC for many years, and Starling thanked them for their continued support, as they presented her with diapers and numerous other items needed by expectant mothers facing a crisis pregnancy.
