The Kiwanis Club of Madison is a perfect fit for Lisa Burnham. About two years ago, Burnham was invited to speak to the organization on behalf of Saint Leo University, where she is employed as a student advisor and an adjunct professor. Burnham, who has been with Saint Leo for 13 years, teaches undergraduate courses for the Human Services program on campus and online.
Teaching is the tip of a very large iceberg for Burnham, who is passionate about community service, which is what drew her to the Kiwanis. "I fell in love with what they do for the community," said Burnham. "I appreciate that they serve all age groups." Burnham is president-elect for the Kiwanis of Madison and will begin her term later this year.
Until the coronavirus pandemic shortened the school year, Burnham was busy cultivating interest in the Kiwanis through a program at Pinetta Elementary School. Burnham sponsors a group called K-Kids, which encourages children to serve their school and community, respect their environment and strive to make the world a better place. One of the many projects that Burnham had the kids involved with was a supply drive for the Suwannee Valley Humane Society, in Lee. The kids' efforts successfully brought in a large amount of much needed supplies for the shelter, that does a great job of caring for rescue dogs and cats and finding them permanent homes.
At Saint Leo University, Burnham is active in their monthly community projects that continue to gain in popularity and support throughout Madison County. "I am amazed at how well everyone jumps on board to help others," said Burnham. Burnham is also the treasurer of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and the future secretary of the Madison Lion's Club. Fortunately, Burnham's boyfriend, Dustin Jones, and his daughter, Delilah, love helping with the various community projects.
Burnham is a Jasper native who moved to Madison in 2007. She recently earned her Masters of Science Degree in Human Services Administration from Saint Leo University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services Administration. Burnham received her Associate of Arts degree from North Florida Community College.
