After five lead changes in Thursday's game at Suwannee High School on Feb. 25, the Madison County Central School Lady Broncos finally pulled out a 11-7 win over Suwannee.
The Lady Broncos finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fourth inning. They went up for good on a three-run triple by Abi Annett off Kayla Hurst, bringing home Grace Galbraith, Halie Wetherington and Sadie Underwood.
Wetherington racked up four RBIs on four hits for the Lady Broncos. She singled in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
Hope Underhill got the win for the Lady Broncos despite allowing seven runs over seven innings. Underhill struck out five, walked four and gave up 10 hits.
Hurst took the loss for Suwannee. She allowed nine runs in five 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out seven.
In the top of the first inning, the Lady Broncos grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Galbraith kicked things off for the Lady Broncos with a single. Then moved Galbraith from first to second. Annett singled, scoring Galbraith.
After a quick strike from the Lady Broncos, Suwannee responded with one run in the first. Suwannee scored on a wild pitch.
A key fourth-inning rally gave the Lady Broncos the lead for good. The Lady Broncos tacked on a total of six runs on a two-run single by Wetherington.
After posting two runs in the sixth inning, the Lady Broncos again scored two in the seventh. In the sixth inning, the Lady Broncos scored on an RBI single by Wetherington, bringing home Shelby Burt.
An error scored Rheanna Schreiber to get the Lady Broncos on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Wetherington's single, plating Jessie Roberts.
Four Suwannee runs crossed the plate in the bottom half of the seventh, making the score 11-7. An error, an RBI single by Karis Smith, a groundout by Karson K and an error triggered Suwannee's comeback. Suwannee's Akoya Dukes singled to end the ball game.
Annett came up big at the dish and in the circle, leading the Lady Broncos to a 11-1 win over Lafayette on Monday, Feb. 29 at Madison Recreation Park.
Annett boosted her batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace the Lady Broncos. She singled in the first, third and fourth innings.
Annett struck out eight hitters en route to the Lady Broncos' win. Annett allowed no earned runs on two hits and two walks over five innings.
The Lady Broncos beat Lafayette thanks to six hits, including zero extra base hits. They scored four runs, an RBI single by Annett and a groundout by Jocelyn Davis in the fourth inning.
C. Lamb took the loss for Lafayette. She allowed 11 runs in four 1/3 innings, walked seven and struck out three.
The game was never in doubt after the first, as the Lady Broncos scored three runs on an error.
The Lady Broncos brought home one run in the second inning, and matched that run total in the third. In the second, Madison County Central School Lady Broncos scored on an RBI single by Wetherington, plating Sadie Underwood.
It didn't take long for the Lady Broncos to respond as they scored one run of their own in the third inning. The Lady Broncos scored on a wild pitch.
