This year, the MCCS Lady Broncos softball team is off to a great start. The girls have been practicing hard to prepare for the upcoming season. The team returns eight players from last year's team that finished the season 6-4. This team knows they have to work hard, but are dedicated to do everything necessary to make this a special season. The team consists of six eight graders; Iesha Aikens, Laila Dickey, Kaylee Groover, Makeela Hawkins, Amber Reed and Reese Rutherford; ten seventh graders: Abi Annett, Jashanti Davis, Jocelyn Davis, Emily Durst, Cali Dyal, Grace Galbraith, Summer Roberts, Sadie Underwood, Hope Underhill and Savanna Wilford; and two sixth graders: Jessie Roberts and Rheanna Schreiber. The team also has two managers, Esther Oro and Ginger Oro, who go above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly. Their first game was Tuesday, Feb. 3 against Aucilla. The Broncos Softball team won 22-12 in five innings. They jumped out to a 14-0 lead but Aucilla fought back to make it 14-10 before the Lady Broncos rallied to make it 20-10. Reese Rutherford pitched two and two-thirds of an inning, striking out six and walking one. She gave up zero earned runs. Abi Annett pitched one scoreless inning striking out two and walking one. Offensively, all of the Broncos contributed with 16 out of 18 players scoring at least one run. Come out and support the MCCS softball program this season. The girls are sure to impress.
