On Thursday, Feb. 23, the Madison County Central School (MCCS) Lady Broncos met the Lady Bulldogs of Taylor County Middle School in softball action. What resulted was a 14-4 pounding by the Lady Broncos over the Lady Bulldogs.
Taylor scored early with one run in the top of the first inning. The Lady Broncos responded with a five- run flurry in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning, the Lady Broncos added four more runs, and the rout was on. Taylor did score one run in the third and two in the fifth inning, but that was not enough to keep up with the Lady Broncos.
Halie Wetherington went three for three at the plate, hitting a double and two singles. Wetherington also had two RBIs and three stolen bases. Jessie Roberts also went three for three batting for the Lady Broncos. Roberts hit a double and two singles, and scampered for two stolen bases. Angel Vann went two for three, including a home run and three RBIs. In total, the Lady Broncos had 15 hits and 15 stolen bases during the contest. Wetherington was the winning pitcher for the Lady Broncos with a 71 percent strike percentage and recording eight strike-outs.
