The Aucilla Christian Academy Lady Warriors are playing like champs and racking up wins this month. Head Coach Becky Lauth is proud of her team and remains confident in their capabilities-- it seems as though nothing can stop them as they continue to duke it out on the diamond. On March 9, the Lady Warriors played Hamilton County and won in a 16-0 shut-out. In fact, the Lady Warriors accumulated 16 runs in the first three innings. An early edge was gained in the second inning with an RBI double by Taylor Copeland, a two-run double by Kaylee Rogers, a groundout by Emma Witmer, an RBI double by Natalie Sorensen and an RBI double by Ashlyn Rogers. The Lady Warriors packed a punch in the third inning, gaining 10 more runs. The inning started off strong when Abigail Morgan doubled, scoring Dena Bishop. Morgan went a perfect 2-2 at the dish, singling in the second inning and doubling in the third. Not only was Morgan a star at home plate, but on the pitching mound as well. She threw a no-hitter, striking out six batters and walking one. On March 10, the Lady Warriors were ready for more. They defeated Leon High School, 10-0 and racked up another victory. The girls took the lead in the second, scoring three runs on a home run by Natalie Sorensen; they would stay on top for the rest of the game. In the third, the Lady Warriors scored on an RBI double by Kaylee Rogers, scoring Ramsey Sullivan. They scored in the sixth on an RBI double by Abigail Morgan, an RBI single by Taylor Copeland and an RBI single by Ashlyn Rogers. Natalie Sorensen starred in this game, racking up three RBIs on three hits for the Lady Warriors. She homered in the second inning and singled in the fifth inning. Sorensen wasn't the only one making noise -- Elizabeth Hightower pitched another no-hitter, striking out nine batters and walking five. On Friday, March 13, the Lady Warriors squared off with their rival, Robert F. Munroe Day School, for the second time this season. Also, for the second time this season, they defeated the Munroe Bobcats, 6-1. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Munroe scored on a solo home run by Hannah Wilde. However, Aucilla tied the game in the fifth inning, with a single by Taylor Copeland, who also led at bat, going 2-3 and tripling in the seventh inning. The Lady Warriors took the lead in the sixth inning on a single, scoring Natalie Sorensen and Elizabeth Hightower. The sixth inning also saw three runs cross the plate on a sacrifice fly by Ramsey Sullivan and a two-run single by Kelly Horne. The team accumulated three more runs in the seventh, sealing the deal. Hightower, as always, shined on the pitcher's mound; Munroe managed only one hit off of Hightower, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six during her three innings of pitching. The girls simply couldn't be stopped and carried their conquest to Columbia on March 19, where they defeated the opponent, 10-2. After a second inning RBI single by Ashlyn Rogers, the Lady Warriors wouldn't surrender the lead again. A sixth inning burst saw Aucilla score on a passed ball, a walk by Rogers, an RBI single by Carly Joiner, a three-run double by Ramsey Sullivan and a walk by Taylor Copeland. Rogers was on fire, racking up four RBIs on two hits for the Lady Warriors. Hightower struck out eight batters, allowing two earned runs, six hits and seven walks over seven innings. On March 20, the girls matched up against Oakleaf High School and won 4-3, after an exhausting 12 innings. The teams traded runs for most of the match-up, with five lead changes in the game. The Lady Warriors finally managed to take the lead after the twelfth inning, on an RBI single by Carly Joiner off Oakleaf's Becca Koskey, scoring Taylor Copeland. Despite back and forth leads over 12 innings, the Lady Warriors made some outstanding plays. Ramsey Sullivan homered in the third inning, Ashlyn Rogers homered in the third inning, and Kelly Horne homered in the fourth inning. In fact, Sullivan and Horne starred in the Oakleaf match-up, teaming up for a total of six hits and three RBIs. Elizabeth Hightower pitched a relentless 12 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits. The Lady Warriors' winning streak would come to an end on March 20 against Bolles in a 3-9 defeat. However, the girls are determined to succeed. Their game has consistently improved and it is certain friends, family and fans will continue to see the Lady Warriors soar and their talents impress.
