Learning As I Go: Hummingbirds
My new favorite pastime is watching the hummingbirds flit to my feeders. They are mesmerizing creatures. Most species beat their wings between fifty and sixty beats per minute while maintaining a heartrate between 500 and 1200 beats per minute.
When I first placed the feeders outside, I thought one little hummer visiting would be all I’d get. What I realize now is when one hummingbird finds the feeder, the rest do too. Then, they start attacking each other and fight over who gets dibs.
