Mrs. Lela Welch Curry, age 93, passed away in Madison, Fl. on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017. Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m., at Lee First Baptist Church, with visitation held one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Curry was born on Jan. 22, 1924, in Madison County, Fl., to Will and Edna Welch. After graduating high school she married and moved to Jacksonville, Fl. where she started her career, as an auditor, with Barnett National Bank. She later moved to Tampa, Fl., where she continued working for Barnett National Bank as an auditor. About 20 years ago, she moved back to Madison County, where she enjoyed numerous hobbies and attended Lee First Baptist Church, in Lee, Fl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Edna Welch; husband, Carl Curry of Tampa, Fl.; and her siblings: Leon Welch, Norman Welch, Lillian Allen and Laverne McCall, all of Lee, Fl.
Although she never had children, she was lovingly survived by eight nieces and nephews: Yvonne Handley and Marie Daniels of Tallahassee, Fl., Sybil Williams, Juanette Welch and Kathy Bass of Lee, Fl., Dwaine Welch and Carroll Welch of Live Oak, Fl., and Dean Welch of Moultrie, Ga.; and a host of great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lee First Baptist Church Building Fund.
