On Saturday, Dec. 3, the Kiwanis Club of Madison will be presenting Light Up Madison, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This event has been known to kick-off the Christmas season in Madison County. Kiwanis club members have the desire to provide a fun-filled evening with many activities, at little or no cost for families. Therefore, they are asking for the community's participation to make this event a successful one.
To participate in this event, make a donation of non-perishable food items for Madison Food Bank or for the Back-pack Buddy program at Lee Elementary. Bring your donation to the event and receive a ticket which will enter you to win a Fisher-Price Power Wheels Denali, Special Edition. The drawing will take place at 7:30 p.m. on the night of the event. You must be present to win.
There are several opportunities for the community to partner with the Kiwanians to make this event spectacular. First of all, parade entries will be rewarded with prizes for best overall and most creative. Parade line-up will begin at 5 p.m. at Farmer's Furniture, located at 349 SW Range Ave, in Madison. The parade will begin at 6 p.m.
They are also calling all singers, musicians, choirs, instrumentalists, and groups to perform during the event.
Additionally, they are wanting volunteers to set up games, rides and fun activities for the children. For the games, you must provide a prize or candy for each player who participates. Another idea would be setting up a craft station where the children are able to make and take a craft.
Finally, Kiwanians are offering non-profit organizations who would like to raise funds, the opportunity to set-up a food booth during the event.
The application deadline for food vendors, parade entries, games and entertainment is Wednesday, Nov. 30. Those participating in the event can start setting up, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone with questions or to sign-up for the event, can call Deena Hames at (850) 973-8277 or (850) 869-0895, Joanne Von Stetina at (850) 673-7427, or Linda Hasketh at (850) 445-7496.
