According to Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR) Fire Chief Allen Clayton, on Thursday, May 18, several units responded to a house fire at 219 SE Abernathy Way, in Madison. Lightning was suspected to be the culprit in the fire that started at around 5:50 p.m. Engine Four, Tanker 51, Medic One and Medic Two from MCFR were joined by Madison Fire Department's Engine One. The responding fire and rescue units worked tirelessly for approximately one hour to extinguish the blaze, which resulted in major damage to the house.
No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze. Valuable assistance was also provided by volunteers from the Cherry Lake, Lee and Madison Volunteer Fire Departments.
