The Madison Lions Club met on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Cucinnella's Brick Oven Pizzeria in Madison to discuss their upcoming fundraiser. The Club will be selling chicken dinners on the Madison County Courthouse lawn on Mar. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dinners will include roasted chicken, cole slaw, baked beans, and bread. The meals will cost $7 on the day of the fundraiser, but Lions Club members will be selling advance tickets for $6. The Madison Chamber of Commerce and Tourism will also be selling tickets for the meals.
The fundraiser helps the Lions Club raise money to achieve their mission of serving the Madison County community. The Club awards scholarships to North Florida Community College and St. Leo University, assists individuals with vision problems in receiving eye exams, and uses a recently purchased screening device to provide eye screenings at local daycares. The Lions Club also uses some of the funds from their fundraisers to sponsor the Madison fireworks show on July 4, which takes place at Lake Francis.
This year marks the 100th year of Lions Club International, and a centennial celebration will be held in Chicago from June 30 to July 4. Lions Club International is the world's largest service club organization.
