The Lion’s Club met on Dec. 1 to discuss issues that had arisen during the week and needed to be taken notice of. Along with the usual members, Nancy Taylor, a local teacher, joined the Lion’s Club as a guest. The toast was led by Bruce Jordan, the pledge by Austin Kelly, the prayer by Brother Gary Cox and Christy Roebuck led the meeting. Taylor joined the Lions to bring to their attention a local family in need. The family had recently increased their family size, and Taylor felt as if the Lion’s could be a benefit in this holiday season to a family who may end up struggling through the Christmas season. The Lions, keeping with their reputation of a giving spirit, passed a motion to bring together Christmas meal baskets, winter clothing and toys to the family. Next on their agenda was the passing around of the Lions Club’s new business cards. Complete with all the information needed to contact the club, as well as, on the backside, an offer of lunch to those who care to take part in the Lion’s weekly meeting in the backroom of Cucinella’s Pizza. After making sure each member had his or her cards, the Lion’s Club moved on to discuss setting up the Lion’s Club’s sled and reindeer in Four Freedom’s park. Their final order of business was discussing the details of their Christmas meal baskets. The Lion’s Club puts together meal baskets for families and individuals who are in need during the Christmas season and delivers the baskets on Christmas Eve so that the families or individuals can still experience the wonder of a warm Christmas dinner even while going through a hard time in their life. The Lion’s Club’s goal for this year is to distribute their baskets to at least nine families, including the family mentioned above.
