Lonnie "Leo" Pickles (known by the family as "PaPick"), of Madison Fla., was surrounded by his family when he passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020. Leo was born on Oct. 12, 1936, in Perry, Fla., to Joe "Joe Bird" and Agnes Pickles of Madison, Fla. He went to school in Perry and Madison. He married Laredo Medders on Jan. 27, 1962, in Greenville, Fla. He was a well-known mechanic/welder and radiator repair-man in Madison.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. Pickles and Agnes R. Bass Pickles; a son, Jeffery L. Pickles; a brother, Jack D. Pickels; sister, Maxine L. Pickles LaValley; and brother-in-law, Alfred J. LaValley; and his special Aunt Mattie L. Bass Leslie.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Laredo Pickles; their son, Troy Pickles (Karen); and their daughter, Kim Bass (Doug). He had four grandchildren: Jessica Ratliff (Jimbo), Ethan Pickles (McKenzie), Dustin Bass and Dylan Bass. He also had four great-grandchildren: Emery and Wyatt Ratliff and Emmitt and Rileigh Pickles. He is also survived by his sweet sister-in-law, Simmie L. Andrews; his nephews: Stan and Howard Pickels; his two nieces: Cris Pickels and Janice Lookabill; his brother-in-law, Alton Medders; nephew, Chuck Medders; nieces: Mandy, Merritt, Charlene Medders and Marsha Webb (Darren); and many great-nieces and nephews. Leo also loved his dear church family at New Home Baptist.
Leo enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, piddling in the shop with his son and grandson and cooking peanuts for his family and friends (especially for his dear friend Tom Ray Kelley). The past few years, he truly enjoyed the time he spent with his sister-in-law, Simmie Pickels, and his nephew, Stan Pickels.
His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with. While the family knows they have lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend; they also know that heaven gained another soul. He is loved dearly and will be missed by so many.
His service was held on Wednesday, April 1 2020 at San Pedro Cemetery in Madison, Fla. His visitation was at 9 a.m., followed by graveside services at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Laredo Pickles at 193 SW Camp Hammock Way, Madison, Fla.
