Lowell Alan Hidy, 82, passed away on June 5, 2020, in Madison, Fla. Lowell was born March 31, 1938, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Glenn Scott Hidy and Ethel Camelin Hidy.
Lowell was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Cherry Lake United Methodist Church. He was the church pianist for 51 years at Cherry Lake United Methodist Church. He was commonly known in the community as the "Cake Man," baking more than 10,000 cakes over the years. In addition to baking cakes, Brother Lowell was known for refinishing furniture and many other trades in the community to support his family. He always greeted his customers with a warm smile and an open heart.
Lowell was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Scott Hidy; his mother, Ethel Camelin Hidy; his daughter, Lana Hidy Hewitt; and his infant sister, Eileen Hidy. He was also preceded in death by several sisters-in-law and brothers -in-law.
Lowell is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Braswell Hidy; daughters: Autumn Burnett (Craig) and Amber Harris (Josh); son, Alan Hidy (Amelia); and daughter, Laran Rogers. He is also survived by grandchildren: Forrest Hewitt; Tyler, Justin and Aiden Burnett; Caroline, Emma and Malachi Harris; and Glenn Hidy. Lowell is also survived by brothers: James E. Hidy; Ronald Hidy (Doris); Gary Hidy (Norma); Wayne Hidy (Julia); and Phil Hidy (Ross). He is survived by brothers-in-law: Paul Braswell (Kathleen), Steve Braswell and Jim Hunter; and sisters-in-law, Jane Wells (Ken) and Opal Braswell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 8, at 3 p.m. at Cherry Lake Methodist Cemetery with Pastor Cherryl Cruce officiating. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cherry Lake United Methodist Church Building Fund or Big Bend Hospice.
