Luther Homer Eakins, 59, of Greenville, passed away Friday, March 25 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Homer was born November 12, 1956 in Valdosta, Ga. to Lester Luther Eakins and Sarah Helen Parker Eakins. He was a lifelong resident of Madison County and a graduate of Greenville High School. Homer was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as a millwright in local sawmills for many years.
In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and working on small engines and power equipment. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester and a brother, Kenny Eakins.
Homer is survived by his mother, Sarah Helen Eakins, of Sirmans; a brother, Danny Eakins (Sue Ann) of Perry; a sister, Sandy Dwyer (Mark), of Virginia Beach, Va.; one daughter, two granddaughters as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 28 at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville with Bro. Gary Blanton officiating.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday evening March 27 at Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
