Rehearsals are in full swing as the Madison Church of God (MCOG) prepares for their annual Passion Play.
This production is an annual undertaking for many in the church. The show is written and directed by Amber Justus (whom her husband, Pastor Jason Justus, fondly refers to as the First Lady of MCOG); but according to Mrs. Justus, all she did was take the true story from the Bible and write the stage script.
The production involves 50 cast members covering all age groups from within the church: children, youth and adults. Mrs. Justus says the youngest cast member is 4 years old and the oldest is in the senior adult group.
The play covers the entire life of Christ showing His miracles; His time with the children; His crucifixion, burial and resurrection, and it follows through all the way to His ascension back to Heaven.
Performances are scheduled for Palm Sunday, April 9 at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 15 at 6 p.m. and Easter Sunday, April 16 at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary.
Prior to Saturday’s performance, there will be an egg hunt for children ages 4 to 12 in the church gym from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Seating is limited to 275 for each performance, and a love offering will be taken at each show. The funds from the love offerings will help cover the costs of the new staging and props bought for this year’s five new scenes.
