The Madison County Boys Choir, led by musicians Daniel Graham and Desmond J. Roberson, Sr., are traveling to perform in Atlanta, Ga. and are in need of donations in order to fund transportation, food and lodging during the boys' travels.
On Father's Day, June 19, the boys will be traveling to the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga. and featured as a special guest choir.
Throughout its long history, Ebenezer Baptist Church has been a spiritual home to many citizens of the "Sweet Auburn" community. Its most famous member, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., was baptized as a child in the church. After giving a trial sermon to the congregation at the age of 19, King was ordained as a minister. In 1960, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. became a co-pastor of Ebenezer with his father, Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr., know as "Daddy" King. He remained co-pastor until his death in 1968. As a final farewell to his spiritual home, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s funeral was held in the church.
“A little choir like this going to a big church is a big deal,” said Graham in regards to the boys' upcoming performance.
Opportunities like this teach the boys of the Madison County Boys Choir that hard work, steadfastness, prayer and perseverance pay off. Each opportunity they get to travel to perform at other places motivates them to keep moving forward.
