On Thursday, Jan. 6, the Madison County Fire and Rescue first responders on shift worked with a local homeschool group, Training Arrows, in order to help teach them how to properly perform CPR. Firefighters Townsend and Shannon provided the children and adults there with a hands-on-only CPR demonstration and training. Madison County Fire & Rescue is working hard to promote the “Have A Heart” campaign, which encourages citizens and community members to learn how to perform hands-on-only CPR. This newer method of CPR shows individuals how to perform CPR without using mouth-to-mouth contact. Rather, by pressing hard and pushing fast on the chest, individuals can learn how to circulate the blood and oxygen that is already in the heart. Many of the students present for this homeschool field trip, as well as some of the adults, became CPR certified with the assistance of Townsend and Shannon that day. Thanks to Madison County Fire & Rescue for working with the youth in our community and helping educate them on important safety issues and protocols.
