On Thursday, Jan. 12, Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR) received a new toy. Specifically, a 2023 Pierce/Freightliner 1,250 gallons per minute rescue/pumper was added to the MCFR fleet. This truck, dubbed Engine No. 4, is not only equipped with fire-fighting capabilities, it is outfitted with an array of medical devices often found on ambulances. These include a Lucas 3 automated CPR device, AED/cardiac monitor and more. The new truck is also a technological marvel with broadband capabilities and the HASS Alert system that can alert oncoming drivers of the presence of emergency vehicles.
The new engine came with a price tag of approximately $427,000 and was purchased, at no cost to Madison County, through a state legislative request.
