Thanks to a $50,000 “Helping Rural Communities” grant, Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR) recently obtained a 2023 Kubota 1100cc 4x4 UTV equipped with a fire/rescue skid unit. This vehicle can carry 85 gallons of water and has a pump capable of shooting water out at a rate of 100 gallons per minute. The unit also has the ability to carry a back board for the transport of inked people from remote areas. According to Chief Allen Clayton, this vehicle is one of the first of its kind in the state to be designed for fire and rescue.
With its smaller size and four-wheel-drive, this vehicle will provide a greater ability to reach people in remote areas that were inaccessible to many vehicles in the MCFR fleet. The grant will also cover the purchase of a trailer to haul the UTV. “This will also allow us to use the UTV for events such as Down Home Days, freeing up the larger vehicles for other emergencies,” said MCFR Chief Allen Clayton. “I do want to thank the Board of County Commissioners and the Madison County community for their continued support of MCFR.”
