The Madison County High School (MCHS) cheer teams recently went to Fellowship of Christian Sthletes (FCA) Cheer Camp at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga.
The JV and varsity cheer teams for MCHS both came out on top by the end of camp. The first day, MCHS won the Best Home Sideline Cheer award, which would be the first of many awards won by the girls. Thirteen girls on the JV team were completely new at cheerleading. For the MCHS JV cheer team, Ni'Jayah McKnight won the Heart of the Huddle award, while Jordin Akins was named the Jump Off winner and received the Best Cheer award. For the varsity cheer team, Stephanie Hasty won the Heart of the Huddle award and the girls on the varsity team also won the Teamwork award. Both of the JV and varsity teams were FCA Cheer Champions, with the varsity team walking away with the coveted banana. The banana is given to the most spirited team. Instead of a spirit stick, at FCA Camp, they hand out the Sword of the Spirit to the best team of that day at camp. MCHS ended up with the Sword of the Spirit by the end of FCA Cheer Camp.
What many people do not know is that FCA Cheer Camp takes a mental, physical, emotional and spiritual toll on all the cheerleaders who participate in the activities. All the girls were working from 6:45 a.m. to 9 p.m.
