Working under the direction of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, there are 11 dispatchers who serve between three different shifts.
Each dispatcher works 12-hour shifts, with mid-shifts for sergeants and staff sergeants. At all times, the Madison County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center (which is located within the Emergency Medical Services building on Hwy 90) will have two to three dispatchers within it.
The dispatch center is opened 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year; it never closes and never sleeps.
This week, from Sunday, April 10 to Saturday, April 16, the nation takes a moment to appreciate the men and women who tirelessly wait only a quick phone call away to help with all the emergency needs of the citizens in their region.
