The Madison Garden Club met for a regular meeting on Thursday, Nov. 4. During this meeting, it was announced that Madison County 4-H has begun renovations on the 4-H camp in Cherry Lake, and needs assistance. The Madison Garden Club is looking to host a fundraiser to assist Madison County 4-H with this much needed project.
Connie Woodward, owner and operator of Karattopp Bees, located at 1864 NE County Rd 255, in Lee, was the guest speaker of this month's meeting. Karottopp sells different types of honey, depending on the time of year and species of plants the bees are visiting. Popular regional honey types include gallberry honey and saw palmetto honey. Karottopp's honey is unrefined, keeping the essence of the product intact. Larger industrial honey producers pasteurize and filter their honey, removing many particles that artisan honey producers desire to keep in their honey.
Under the Florida cottage industry laws, products produced and sold through this classification must be done so with hand to hand transactions with the owner. If you are interested in purchasing honey from Karottopp Bees, contact them by phone at (850) 290-3116 or by email at bees@karottopp.com.
