The Madison Garden Club held their monthly meeting on Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Madison Woman's Club. During the business portion of the meeting, it was discussed that the Madison Garden Club will be hosting a sock hop fundraiser for Madison County 4-H on Saturday, March 19. The club is still deciding on a time and location for the fundraiser. All proceeds will go towards funding the renovation of the Cherry Lake 4-H Camp.
This month's guest speaker was Julia Shewchuck of Serenity Acres, one of her helping hands, Kirsten DeGutes and Annie, an 11-month-old Pygmy goat. Shewchuck and her husband originally moved to Pinetta from South Fla., and have been on their farm for 13 years. When they found out her husband is lactose intolerant, they discovered goat's milk. Her husband decided that it would be a wonderful idea to have their own goats to produce goat's milk. They started out with three goats, fell in love with them, and quickly housed over 100 goats on their farm.
Serenity Acres makes and sells a variety of products such as soaps, lotions, cheese, yogurt and self-care products. Their products are sold on Amazon, Etsy and on their website at www.serenitygoats.com.
If anyone is interested in learning more about the farm or taking a tour, call (877) 601-7373 to book an appointment. Each tour will typically last between an hour or an hour and a half, depending on questions asked by the audience. The farm tour costs seven dollars per person, and donations are always welcome to help support the goats. Serenity Acres is located at 438 NE English Ivy Trail, in Pinetta.
