March 2017 marked over thirty years since the first Madison County area mission team went to serve as short-term missionaries to Haiti.
Beginning back in the mid 1980s, local church folks from the area answered the call to assist congregations in southern Haiti in helping to provide and construct roofs for churches and affiliated schools. Over the years, the teams have assisted in other areas of service, but they continue to work in roof construction as their main mission job.
This year, eight missionaries from the Madison area served in southern Haiti from March 10 to March 17. This group helped provide and construct roofs for three different churches and accompanying schools up in the mountains of that country.
Pastor Scott Singletary, Mr. Shelby Day, Pastor Gerald Greenlee, Ms. Tessa Andrews, Ms. Cady Carter, Ms. Kyrslie Greenlee, and Pastor Murrell Bennett all traveled to Haiti and worked with a ministry called Harvest Call, an outreach of the Apostolic Christian Church from Indiana.
Harvest Call works full-time in Haiti with a group of churches, providing assistance, not only in church and school construction, but also medical care and education.
If anyone has an interest in working with missions or going on a mission trip to Haiti, please call Pastor Bennett of Cherry Lake First Baptist Church at (229) 630-8578.
