On Saturday, April 2 at Lanier Field, in Madison, the Always Support Kids (ASK) With Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities Walk and Race was held. April is the national month for autism awareness and the event has entered its fifth year of being put on at Lanier field.
While the day was mainly focused around the children’s Fun Run and the adult 5K Glow Run/Walk, there were also snow cones, actors dressed in the costumes of fictional characters, jewelry and knitted goods vendors, as well as outdoor toys and games. Big Bend Bouncers also came out with a bounce house that stayed constantly busy with activity.
Every child that participated in the free Fun Run received a ribbon.
In the 5K Glow Run/Walk, individuals paid a $10 entry fee before taking their place at the starting line at 6 p.m.
The run was off to a quick start with the first place title in anyone’s favor.
With a run time of 24 minutes and 20 seconds, Miles Stanley led the run as he crossed the finish line and won the first place title. Following behind Stanley in second place was Merv Mattair, with a time of 26 minutes and 55 seconds. Coming up in third place was Sarah Vann, who completed the race with a time of 29 minutes and 32 seconds.
All three winners were presented with ribbons, certificates of success and a winner’s basket.
