During the regular meeting of the Madison County District School Board on Monday, Dec.
5, Board Chairperson Carol Gibson announced the Teachers of the Year from each of the districts schools. The district- wide Teacher of the Year will be named at a later date. The district's Teachers of the Year are:
• Madison County High School – Leslie McLeod
• Madison County Central School Middle – Daphne Brooks
• Madison County Central School Elementary – Carie Diepersloot
• Madison Creative Arts Academy – Jessica Webb
• Pinetta Elementary School – Bobbi Pinkard
• Lee Elementary School – Lisa Smith
• Greenville Elementary School – Monika Hopkins
• James Madison Preparatory High School – Mandy Bergeron
The board approved a request to award teachers and support staff at Madison County High School with a total of $82,855 in “recognition money.” Because of the fact that the school improved their school grade from a “D” to a “B,” teachers who were on staff during that time are eligible for bonus pay. The funds are for staff that were at the school last year and are still at the high school this year. This includes 20 instructional staff members. The staff at the school voted on a 40-8 vote on the allotment of the funds, with a greater percentage going to instructional staff. The instructional staff members will divide 80 percent, or $66,284, which will amount to approximately $2,618 each. The remaining 20 percent, or $16,571 will be divided among the paraprofessionals and
support staff, approximately $654 each. The board approved a service contract with Keith Hughes, from Jasper, Fla., for required bus fleet inspection. The timeframe for the contract will be from Thursday, Dec. 1, through the end of February of 2023. Hughes will be an independent contractor and the district agreed to pay him $30 per hour for his services. Hughes will submit a monthly timesheet of the hours worked.
The next scheduled regular meeting of the Madison County District School Board will take place on Monday, Jan. 2, at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the board meeting room, located at 210 NE Duval Ave., in Madison.
