A man is charged in a domestic violence stabbing incident after a female victim was found with a puncture wound to her upper left torso. The Madison Police Department (MPD) was assisted by Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) deputies while responding to the incident off of SE Oak Street, in Madison, in the early morning hours of Thursday, Feb. 20.
According to a report issued by the MPD, Ptl. F. Korey was dispatched to the location of the incident, in reference to a possible domestic violence incident at approximately 2:58 a.m. Upon arrival, with assistance from the MCSO, Joseph Parson, 33, of Quitman, Ga., was detained by Deputy. A. Land while Deputy R. Miller was assisting a female victim with her injuries, who refused medical treatment. She advised she just had a small cut on her left hand.
Ptl. Korey read the female her miranda warning before beginning his line of questioning, The victim was very uncooperative and refused to report what happened; only stating she and Parson were allegedly involved in sexual relations. While speaking to the female, Ptl. Korey observed a large dark red spot under her left arm, appearing on her gray pullover hoodie. Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR) was dispatched back to the scene upon the knowledge of a one-inch puncture wound on the upper left side of her body that continued to bleed, according to an on-duty MCFR employee.
Upon further investigation, the victim was uncooperative when asked how she received the wound and who might have stabbed her. She did state that she did not know who stabbed her and it was dark. A written sworn statement was refused and the victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
Officers made contact with Parson, who agreed to answer questions regarding the incident. Parson advised officers that he saw the victim at the Sunoco gas station on Base and Duval streets. He had asked for his clothes out of her vehicle, to which she stated, "F*** no. You can come back to the house and we can finish what we was talking about." He stated he did go back to the house, where the victim refused to return his clothes.
Parson further stated that the victim attempted to enter into sexual relations with Parson, who informed her he was not interested and only wanted his clothes so he could leave. Parson reported that the victim began throwing items at him, pushing him and hitting him, allegedly refusing to stop when advised.
It was further reported that Parson pulled his pocket knife out and opened it, only wanting to scare the victim to get her to stop hitting him. However, the victim jumped at him, still trying to hit him. Parson also reported that he did not mean any harm to her.
A black pocket knife was found in the back right pocket of Parson. The knife measured approximately seven and a half inches long. Parson advised officers that the knife confiscated was the knife he had in his hand. Parson was charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon/domestic violence.
Additionally, blood was found in several areas of the home. Photographic evidence of the home and of the victim's puncture wound was obtained.
