Let’s RELAY, Madison County! The American Cancer Society Relay for Life event is designed to give everyone in their community the opportunity to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones who have been lost and fight back against the disease. Madison County has been an active participant in Relay for Life for many years, and community members are busy now preparing for this year’s event. The date is set for Friday, May 8 at the Madison County High School football field. The countywide theme is “Sounds of Hope,” and music will fill the air as each team centers its own theme around a song that captures the spirit and meaning of the group. So far, 18 teams have signed up, but there is still time to form a team if your group is interested. There is no minimal fee to register a team, and any group can join. Teams can hold fundraisers prior to the Friday, May 8 event as well as plan fun activities during the event to raise funds. All monies raised will go to the American Cancer Society for research, cures and awareness. The countywide goal is $40,000 and $6,000 has been raised so far. Two upcoming fundraisers are planned in early May. On Friday, May 1, the Realtors of Madison team will sponsor their first annual “Glowing for a Cure” fun run/walk. More details will be announced later this week. On Sunday, May 3 the annual Miss Relay for Life pageant will be held at the North Florida Community College auditorium. For more information, visit the 2015 Miss Relay for Life page on Facebook. There will also be a Relay for Life booth at Down Home Days, where teams will be available to answer questions, fundraising and possibly requiting more team members. One important change this year is that the main event has been condensed from 18 hours to only six! The welcome ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., and all events will be wrapped up by midnight. The entertainment committee has been busy packing the six hours with fun activities for folks of all ages. This is going to be a great Madison County Relay for Life event. Mark your calendars now to head out to the MCHS football field and show your support for the fight against cancer.
