Mrs. Mary Arminta Raines, 94, passed away on May 8, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mary was born November 27, 1921 in Madison to Rev. James Franklin Dryden and Mrs. Mary Lee Phillips Dryden. A native of Madison County, she returned to Madison in the mid 1980's from Jacksonville where she had lived for 43 years.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Mrs. Raines retired from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer after more than 21 years of service. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed visiting the Smoky Mountains in her spare time. Mrs. Raines is preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Coleman C. Raines Sr., in 1989.
She is survived by her son, Coleman C. Raines Jr. of Madison; one brother, Louie Dryden of Swainsboro, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Raines were held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 11 at Midway Baptist Church with Bro. Matt Thompson and Bro. Jeff Bailey officiating. Interment services followed in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, at Burns Funeral Home of Madison. All arrangements were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
