On Sunday, March 7, 2021 Mary Evelyn Brooks Goss, lovingly known by all as Abbie, went to be with her Savior. She had her children beside her when she was peacefully called home to be with the Lord. Abbie was a lifelong resident of Madison County and a 1967 graduate of Greenville High School. From there she went on to attend and graduate as part of the first ever cosmetology class at North Florida Junior College. Abbie continued her employment as a cosmetologist for over 35 years in Madison and Valdosta before retiring.
She was the second child of Paul Brooks Sr. and Lilly S. Brooks of the Lovett community, both of whom proceeded her in death. She is survived by six siblings: Paula Jarvis (Walter), Donna Lewis (Lynn), Roger “Butch” Brooks, Joyce Sevor (Patrick), Paul Brooks Jr. (Patricia) and Lilly J. Brooks.
Abbie was a devoted wife for 25 years to Cecil D. Goss Sr. who proceeded her in death. She was a beloved mother to three children: Jessie Goss (Donna Smith), Marie Rigdon (Jerrod) and Cecil “Dennis” Goss Jr. (Jessica). Abbie’s favorite title was Grandma to six grandchildren: Franklin Rigdon, Jacob Goss, Lilly G. Rigdon, Faith Rigdon, Cecil Goss III “Trip” and Journey Goss.
Abbie was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church of Lovett. In her life she loved her Lord and her family. Her greatest joy and fulfillment came from spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of them.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery, in Greenville, Fla.
